Dogs Feeling Blue
2009-02-02

I have a two year old rottie, Roxy. She is usually very active and lovable and I have to say one of the best behaved dogs I've ever had. She has a vet appointment later today, but I wanted to see if anyone else knew what might be making her act, well for lack of a better term, not herself. She has been clinging to the same toy and blanket and sleeping on our spare bed for about a week now. She looks very sad, so we have been trying to play with her, and give her extra attention and nothing is working. She doesn't seem to have an ear infection or feel like she has a fever, and she hasn't been panting. Her appetite has decreased immensely and she doesn't even want treats. :( She stopped wanting to go outside and gets like that, "why are you punishing me?" look when we try to get her to go outside, (even if it's only to go potty!) I don't know I just feel so bad and wish she could talk to us... And yet our cat seems to feel ok. I don't know. Can anyone offer any sort of advice if you know more than I seem to.
There is a general term in vet medicine, ADR, ain't doin' right. (Sounds real professional, huh?) Many owners will have this general statement when they bring their pet in.Unfortunately, based on the generality of her symptoms, lethargy and inappetance it would be very hard to guess at what is going on. Those symptoms can go along with hundreds of disease processes and problems.Has she possibly eaten any foreign objects? You would not believe all the crazy things that have been surgically removed from dogs' bellies. From rocks and sticks to whole squeak toys, underwear and everything in between.Has she been vomiting? Vomiting would also be a good indication that she has ingested some foreign material and it is "clogging up the works". Again, this is just one possibility out of many. I'm glad you have an appointment with the vet. None of us on here can say for sure. Hopefully it is nothing too serious. Best of luck with your girl.
